Life in Death

--
you know there can only be one master of your life
that decides if you go to the left or right

if that isn't God, then pray tonight
and give God that invite to rewrite your life
so you can shine bright despite your dark
here's your chance to have a new start
 

we sing that Jesus has died
and we look to the skies
we say "God you are the most high"
but ourselves we do not deny

so we spit in the face of his only son
by not believing that he's really won

that he's saved us from this average life
That he's given us the spirit and he's paid the price

your kingdom come, your will be done
but through someone else cuz I'm not the one
I'll wear this cross around my neck
but I won't follow Christ in his life or death

there's no condemnation in Christ
so hand me that crack pipe and give me a light man
I know that Jesus is pretty alright
But it's my life and I'll do as I like

Jesus didn't bleed so that we could sin freely
but by the Spirit of God we could live sin free
but we go with the flow of this society
and pray to God "Please bless me."
like he wants to be a friend just to buy you a beer
when he wants sit on the throne of his kingdom here

this sickness and disease of complacency
will continue to consume us till we see
that our lives are not ours and decide
that Christ didn't lie when he told us
that we have to deny ourselves and
leave what we have and follow the path
he laid out way back
when he took the wrath of God on his back
and spent three days in the depths
to take the keys out of the hands of death

this is a two part relationship see
faith without works has damned you to complacency
and without faith, works is like guessing at God's purpose
like using Christ's name without his endorsement

so how do you love the Lord with all your heart
with all your soul and with all your mind
Jesus did it on the cross when he had to die
He said the greatest love is when we lay down our lives
so in our death is where we'll thrive
and find hope that will cut through the lies
and bring us life that flows from the Holy Spirit inside

We have to believe that with Christ in the lead
he'll lead us to a place where we're completely free,
completely redeemed, freed from a life of greed,
sin and decay, made new, made whole again,
and walk out the life God planned
from before the foundation of the world began
 

we need to set off on this life long walk
of dying to ourselves and not just talking the talk
Jesus said the gate is narrow and the way is hard
so pick up your sword and stand on guard
